Not Yet

Hopeless loss of focus on anything said,
Star bright light searing through your eyelids,
Steady scream of the siren in your head,
Pounding to the sound of your heart.

It’s hard to be patient
When all you want is for time to fast forward,
To the good part – the reward
After all the effort and struggle,
Is it time to be happy
Or is it time to be humbled?

So sit still and sit tight,
Waiting, don’t react,
Hold it in, stay intact,
Hesitate to initiate
Celebrations or consolations.
Soon. But not yet.
