Misplaced Missive #13: Wings

Which would you rather have? Peace? Or Freedom?

If I could tear off my weighted wings,
For a quick taste of absolute freedom,
Would the cage-less existence,
Satisfy my urge to soar?

Who would deem such a fate free?
If I’m bound so permanently
To the barren ground I fell to?

Caged bird or flightless worm

Limited sky or boundless wasteland

No need for a decision to be made:
Conditions change but providence remains.
Confined, curbed by invisible walls;
The only way I’ll ever fly
Is if I fall.
