#Review: “The Price of Inequality” is Heavy on Rhetoric, Light on Much Else

The Price of Inequality: How Today’s Divided Society Endangers Our Future by economist Joseph E. Stiglitz is in many ways a reaction to the Great Recession of 2008 and the US’s response to it.

I listened to this book on Audible, which likely impacts the way I feel about it. In short, I probably could have used the footnotes available in the print version. Continue reading “#Review: “The Price of Inequality” is Heavy on Rhetoric, Light on Much Else”

Don’t Sweat the First Draft

Writing the first draft of your manuscript is tough. I think it’s easily the hardest part of the entire publishing process. Not only are you trying to create a plot with authentic characters in a believable setting, but you want it to sound good. There’s a constant pressure to write something worthwhile, for you and for your future readers.

However, there is one thing I constantly have to remind myself of before I get bogged down in perfecting my first draft: don’t sweat it so much.

Awesome Con 2019: We Have a Table!

It’s official. We’ve gotten our table assignment for Awesome Con 2019! So, who’s going to be around DC on April 26-28 to visit M.L.S. Weech, Jessie, and me?

I guess it’s time to start laying out my con plans. Continue reading “Awesome Con 2019: We Have a Table!”

A Writing Routine Requires A Life Routine

February has been an up-an-down month, if you hadn’t already guessed, and it’s this kind of sudden change (“Life Events”, as your friendly HR department refers to them) that can throw any decent writing routine completely off course.

Finally, however, I think I’ve found a way to keep writing during this vaguely temporary period of unemployment. Continue reading “A Writing Routine Requires A Life Routine”

Book Review: ‘The Hate U Give’ by Angie Thomas, Matters

I just finished listening to The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas on Audible, and I highly recommend it to anyone who cares about modern American society.

A ton of people have read it already, but this book provides a vital window into race relations and socioeconomic issues in the US — in how they impact one family. Continue reading “Book Review: ‘The Hate U Give’ by Angie Thomas, Matters”

Marketing Your Novel: 2019 Goals

I know we’re already a month a and a half into the year, but I haven’t yet laid out my book marketing plans. I needed some time to mull over what my real goals were and how I can actually reach them.

Answering the first question is easy: Sell. More. Books. As for the second question, well, let’s discuss. Continue reading “Marketing Your Novel: 2019 Goals”

February Write-Day: Now We’re Doing This Monthly

In my last Friday Write-Day post two weeks ago, I mentioned how I might change up the format of this once-weekly post to both challenge myself and provide some more unique content on RSPC.

I thought about a bi-weekly update for about a minute, until I realized that nothing outside of paychecks are scheduled fortnightly, and scheduling my blog in that manner would be ridiculous.

So now it’s monthly. On the first Friday of each month, I’ll update ya’ll on my writing progress from the previous month and talk about my goals for the new month. I’ll have a new title card for this monthly series next month. Continue reading “February Write-Day: Now We’re Doing This Monthly”

Friday Write-Day: Dad Life Returns

Well, week one of my three-week paternity leave is just about done. I’ve been enjoying my time with the little guy, as always. Except today, he spit up all of the formula he had eaten just minutes before, nailing my shirt, his shirt, my pants, and his pants. Then, when I went to change him, he peed all over himself.

Dad. Life. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: Dad Life Returns”

Book Review: Caught by MLS Weech

I picked up Caught directly from MLS Weech at his book launch in Glen Burnie, MD. I think that was back in early 2017, so I’m sorry to say it took me a while to get to this one.

So, yeah, in case it’s not clear enough, here’s my disclosure: Weech is a friend. He’s also an imaginative and vivid writer. Spoiler-free review follows. Continue reading “Book Review: Caught by MLS Weech”

Here is the full synopsis:

The Second Redskael War left many communities in Everfeld in mourning, and now they have united in mutual protection. Aston dreams of fighting for his home as his father did, but Jaed only wants to find the home she never had.

When a long-buried secret is revealed, Jaed and Aston must flee those who would stamp out any threat to the fledgling Felding Alliance. Now they must each make a choice: run away and condemn the society they were raised in, or fight back to protect those they love.

The Warden of Everfeld: Memento follows their adventure as they struggle to reconcile their pasts and discover the true meanings of identity, honor, loyalty, and love. Their choices will change their lives and Everfeld forever.
