Free Verse – Wrath – Marcy Erb

Temple of the Road Gods

You drive like that, red pickup,
Pushing until someone lets you in

But it’s bad luck to cut off a bus
A rolling receptacle of good or bad will

The bus driver is a keeper of karma
Shaking his arm, shouting the prayer of anger.

He’s blowing the mobile temple bell
A giant loaf of bread with olive wheels

The offering to the transportation gods
Don’t stop in the bus stop, pickup – keep moving.
