an ode
this is a song of living
to the uncertainty that futures bring
although it seems silly to praise
our life of low precision
eat plan wait arising every morning
boring like a sinus headache
despite that we swing legs over beds
sliding lids over pupils
unfixed and undilated
stretch ribs without y incisions
the future is still open
it will be fertile and fresh
thank god it hasn’t happened yet

It’s been a crazy last few months for me, but I’m back with a submission August’s theme! Thanks to Steve for posting it! I tried to research traditional ode forms, but wound up going it on my own after all. If you’d like to see the artwork I paired with my poem, mosey on over to Illustrated Poetry and check it out!

This is a wonderful poem. Hope.
I like the line about the Y incision.
