Rondeau – Dragons

Fighting off the dragons that steal my attention;
Beasts of fear and of aggression.
Crying out: What if this is all that’s meant for me?
Telling me: this is all I can ever be.
Less than what’s expected, less than what you’ve mentioned.

It’s a repetitive lesson,
In soul breaking rejection,
I’m alone amongst the debris,
Fighting off the dragons.

Trying to meet your expectations
Has caused me to leave behind previous intentions
Just wait and see
I swear to spite you, I will succeed.
Motivated by this last confession,
Fighting off the dragons.
