Single minded devotion,
Don’t question, just focus,
All your everything on,
Something that may not exist.
Blind faith is bliss,
How dare I doubt this?
Old, over-used adages,
Meant to scare and,
Keep the sheep from wandering,
But I’m not following, not swallowing,
All your bullshit.
Not surrendering to the
Pressure of your preaching.
I’ll keep researching, and keep reaching,
For the Truth.
I’m through letting you lead me.
Single minded devotion,
Don’t question, just focus,
All your everything on,
Something that may not exist.
Blind faith is bliss,
How dare I doubt this?
You’ll never understand,
You can’t always get what you demand.
I won’t eagerly agree, because it is ‘Written’.
And though I may never be forgiven,
I chose to know: This life will always be,
More than just a test in the desert.
So I choose to walk away from the shepherd;
To be more than one of the forgotten flock.
Too late to turn back the clock,
I know too much to believe anymore:
My faith is gone.
Jessie Gutierrez
No one should walk blindly but I hope you find that faith. Not sure what you were going for, but this poem made me feel sad for the desperate soul losing hope and wanting desperately to believe.
I wish I had a happy update! Hah I wrote this so long ago, and yet, my struggle with religious faith is still going on. I imagine it’s something that will continue to mark my writing…
I want to say thank you though. I’m glad at least I was able to convey something real about a time when I was worried everything was fake.
