Fuck. Writing 12 days in a row is hard. Writing for another 18 seems impossible. On day 11 of NaNoWriMo, I had written 18,688 words, slightly over the 18,333-word par. Then I started falling behind for the first time this month. I didn’t like my story, I felt like I was writing boring garbage, and I was not in the mood to continue. I didn’t write at all yesterday. Villanelle – Aggression – SD
“Bowstring”
Taut bowstring sinews do quell the violence
Holding back the swings of Hulk’s blind madness
As the body quakes, raging in silence Continue reading “Villanelle – Aggression – SD”
Misplaced Missive #214: On The Hook
So lost am I in my many books…
Where questions have concrete answers;
Where not everyone’s a crook,
And you tell both the hero and the villain at a single look.
Literature has me on its hook,
‘Cause reality pales in comparison. Continue reading “Misplaced Missive #214: On The Hook”
Gut Reaction: THE MARTIAN by Andy Weir
I just finished reading Andy Weir’s The Martian. Overall, I enjoyed this compelling story. The story follows Mark Watney, an astronaut left on Mars after his crew had to abort their mission, assuming he was dead, and with no other options. Continue reading “Gut Reaction: THE MARTIAN by Andy Weir”
Haiku Sunday NaNo Edition: The Keeper
“The Keeper”
Silently he soars,
A great owl shining like moonlight.
The Keeper sees all.
Author’s Note: Fa’aldenel is an ethereal being charged with watching over Everfeld, maintaining balance in his realm. He takes the form of a great silver-white owl that seems to disappear into thin air as he flies. The people of Everfeld (Feldings), revere owls as near-sacred birds, as well as adept hunters. Thus, many Felding families and boroughs take the owl as their sigil, and bow hunting and archery are celebrated as great skills for Feldings. Whether or not the tales of Fa’aldenel are real… well, that’s up for interpretation.

NaNo Update – War of the Words!
Day 4 of NaNoWriMo: I haven’t had contact with the outside world in over 72 hours…
Psych. But seriously, I have spent a hell of a lot of time on my laptop recently. (Also, when was the last time you heard someone use “psych”? It’s sooo 1999.) Continue reading “NaNo Update – War of the Words!”
November’s Theme – Grrrrrrr Argh

All of the angries!!! Let’s leap from whimsical galumphing to hard hitting villanelles; from random and abstract to deeply personal and intimate; from fun and light and imaginary to graphic and dark and all too real. Continue reading “November’s Theme – Grrrrrrr Argh”
Haiku Sunday NaNo Edition! – Everfeld
“Everfeld”
Lone pine on the hill
Called out and became many-
Ever may they stand.
Author’s Note: Everfeld is a great coniferous forest in the northern region of Úr’Dan (pronounced oor-DAHN), spanning some thousands of square miles. This is also the main setting for the story of Jaed and Aston.

Prepare for Battle: NaNo is Almost Here / Programming Alert!
Yes, NaNoWriMo is set to begin at 12am tonight. Will I be waiting at my desk at 11:59:59pm, fingers prone over my keyboard to begin furiously typing at the stroke of midnight? Nope. I’ll likely be at a Halloween party. Continue reading “Prepare for Battle: NaNo is Almost Here / Programming Alert!”
