NaNo Update: The Big Push

dia820 surges forward for a few yards but is stopped up near the line of scrimmage — no wait — He bounces off the linebacker and jukes HE’S ACROSS THE LINE FOR THE TOUCHDOWN.

If I were a sportscaster, I’d aim to emulate Mike Tirico; smart and engaging in his play-by-play, and unrivaled in his bursts of excitement at the right moments. He also does it for more sports than any other broadcaster I know of; he single-handedly makes ESPN’s Monday Night Football and NBC’s coverage of the World Cup and the Olympics worth listening to. I’m a fan. Continue reading “NaNo Update: The Big Push”

NaNo Update: My Fingers are Burning

Fuck. Writing 12 days in a row is hard. Writing for another 18 seems impossible. On day 11 of NaNoWriMo, I had written 18,688 words, slightly over the 18,333-word par. Then I started falling behind for the first time this month. I didn’t like my story, I felt like I was writing boring garbage, and I was not in the mood to continue. I didn’t write at all yesterday. Story Milestone: 50,000 Words Total, 2:53pm ET

Guess what guys??? I’ve just now hit what should have been the word count total from NaNo 2014! Whew! Big moment. I’d like to thank the Academy for recognizing my genius, and Netflix for helping me put off this occasion for an entire year!

Welp, back to writing. I have about 1,000 words to go to hit 10,000 for NaNo 2015.

NaNo Update – War of the Words!

Day 4 of NaNoWriMo: I haven’t had contact with the outside world in over 72 hours…

Psych. But seriously, I have spent a hell of a lot of time on my laptop recently. (Also, when was the last time you heard someone use “psych”? It’s sooo 1999.) Continue reading “NaNo Update – War of the Words!”

Prepare for Battle: NaNo is Almost Here / Programming Alert!

Yes, NaNoWriMo is set to begin at 12am tonight. Will I be waiting at my desk at 11:59:59pm, fingers prone over my keyboard to begin furiously typing at the stroke of midnight? Nope. I’ll likely be at a Halloween party. Continue reading “Prepare for Battle: NaNo is Almost Here / Programming Alert!”

NaNoWriMo Oh Noooo

With October dwindling down and November rapidly approaching, Stevie has been… subtly… reminding me that National Novel Writing Month is on its way as well. To be frank, last year even though I participated, I definitely didn’t commit. So this year, despite my addiction to procrastination, I am going to do better. Mostly so he stops judging me (gosh).

In this, our nearing time of extreme productivity, I feel it important to remember certain rules bequeathed  to us from on high by the late, great Vonnegut. (Kurt Vonnegut is up in Heaven now).

And thus, our Eight Commandments: Continue reading “NaNoWriMo Oh Noooo”

Pre-NaNo Update: Progress through Outlining

Well, it’s just about mid-October, and my novel is coming along. I’m not writing at a break-neck pace, but I have written almost half of my pre-NaNo goal. I’m at 36,000 words and change, with 13,000+ to go before November. Continue reading “Pre-NaNo Update: Progress through Outlining”

NaNoWriMo Returns, and so does my motivation

Holy crap, it’s almost October. This is the reason I avoid lofty New-Year’s-resolution-style goals at the beginning of the year. I am happy to say that I am on pace to meet some of the realistic goals I’ve set for myself. I should exceed my minimum for financial savings this year. My wedding is almost exactly one year away, and we have most of the major plans in place already (thanks mostly to my fiance, but whatever, I helped!). Concept Art – Captain Hammer Told Me Everyone’s A Hero In Their Own Way

Heroism

‘In the time of gods and monsters, what is the worth of a man?’ – Joss Whedon

Colored Doodle!
Colored Doodle!

It’s supposed to be so simple. Hero. Someone that saves the day, right? We grow up with these images of chiseled men and women, painted in neon colors, performing impossible tasks of daring and bravery, holding them on high like deities, and with ubiquitous propaganda of soldiers wrapped in the red white and blue, infallible in their willingness to die for their love of country. And so we learn that heroism is all about the big things: Continue reading “Concept Art – Captain Hammer Told Me Everyone’s A Hero In Their Own Way”

Concept Art – What is Love? Baby, Don’t Hurt Me

Cheesy music reference aside, Concept Art is going to be a semi-serious, introspective series. After a truly heartbreaking conversation a lot of times I prefer to dwell on abstractions instead of vivid details and relevant circumstances, so I thought I might as well start out big or go home.

And thus:
Love. Continue reading “Concept Art – What is Love? Baby, Don’t Hurt Me”
