Monthly and Yearly Goals: January 2016

Happy New Year!

It’s 2016 now. I think the whole New Year’s Resolution thing is a tad overblown. That sentiment is obviously shared by my distant friend on the other side of this website. Still, I like setting goals for myself. It’s a challenge. And I’ve recently started publicizing my writing goals because I feel like I need to be held accountable to… whoever you are. So here are my goals for this month, as well as for 2016 in total. Continue reading “Monthly and Yearly Goals: January 2016”

“Jaed and Aston” Milestone: 100,000 Words

December has been a super slow writing month for me. The holidays always stress me out for no reason, and I had a bunch of other stuff going on this month. Thus, I fell far behind my month’s writing goal of ~35k for “Jaed and Aston”, and about a week before Christmas, I decided that I wouldn’t be able to catch up anyway. Literary Inspiration Mixtape: My Top Ten

Many moons ago, this site was born of a continuous exchange of poetry and mix CDs. Last night in the wee hours of the morning, I realized that I missed one fundamental aspect of that beginning – the music. And thus I have decided to do a mix list for you folks in line with December’s Theme. Continue reading “Literary Inspiration Mixtape: My Top Ten”

Meta-blog + a Note on Using the Interwebs

Every now and then someone I barely know at some party or bar or during a random conversation on the train will ask me that all-important icebreaker: what do you do for a living? My default answer of “I work for a marketing firm” tends to be enough for most, because the more detailed explanation either confuses them or does not interest them in the slightest.

Rarely, however, do I receive the following in almost automatic response: “Oh, so you manipulate people.” Continue reading “Meta-blog + a Note on Using the Interwebs”

Concept Art – Poorly Educated but Well Read

Subtitled: “too poor to be classically educated and dwelling on it the more that I read”
OR “my education is so porous, I could fill a red well”

Occasionally I like my subtitles better than my title and get sidetracked in interestingly irrelevant ways.

On to the discussion! Continue reading “Concept Art – Poorly Educated but Well Read”

NaNo 2015 Recap + December Goals

National Novel Writing Month is finished for 2015, and I’ve taken a bit of a break from my novel. I wrote a few hundred words on Tuesday. Otherwise, I’ve been catching up on Netflix (I just started watching Sherlock with Cumberbatch and Martin. Quick rip: I like it). But I really only want this to be a temporary break from writing to reset my brain. Continue reading “NaNo 2015 Recap + December Goals”

NaNo Update: The End is Nigh!

I can’t believe November is over in 12 hours. It’s been a long month. I think I’ll have some real lessons to take away once I’ve verified my final word count tonight, but I’ll discuss those in a later post.

After five days of travel for Thanksgiving weekend, my word count sits at 46,628. Continue reading “NaNo Update: The End is Nigh!”

MOAR Milestones! …however arbitrary

No, the arbitrary milestone has nothing to do with NaNo, although I will cover that in a bit. I am happy to announce that Red String PaperCuts has reached a new, totally arbitrary and not-at-all-indicative-of-future-success milestone!

2014-2015 Comparison scrnsht Continue reading “MOAR Milestones! …however arbitrary”

NaNo Update: I Need More Fantasy

I hit a weird snag in my NaNo novel on Wednesday, one I did not expect to hit after my record-shattering (for me) weekend. I got bored with my story. I was bored with Aston (he is so terribly naive, something I may have to fix in the editing process), I was bored with the section I was writing, and I was bored with Everfeld. I wrote 135 words, and I don’t even like most of them. I get it,  at least I wrote something. But I was not looking forward to coming home on Thursday and staring at the laptop screen again.
