Free on Kindle – The Warden of Everfeld: Memento

Well, I mentioned in last week’s post that I wanted to make a final push on selling/giving away copies of my novel, The Warden of Everfeld: Memento

My fantasy novel is now available for free on Kindle until midnight on December 20 PT. This is 200,000+ words of engaging characters, adventure, world building, and that touch of magical realism that I think we all could use to close out 2020.

Want to read a full synopsis or some character bios for Aston and Jaed? Check out my summary page for The Warden of Everfeld: Memento here.

Here’s the link to the Amazon page: https://www.amazon.com/Warden-Everfeld-Memento-Steven-DAdamo-ebook/dp/B07FGG23K7/

Tell your friends, tell your family, “buy” my book as a gift, or just because we all need to pad our TBR lists.

Behind the Scenes

I decided to enroll my novel in KDP Select, which means I can run a 5-day giveaway. (I will definitely be sharing the results of this giveaway after the fact.) This is my first time running a giveaway promotion like this, so I’m really excited and maybe a little bit nervous.

My goal from earlier in the year for total book sales/giveaways for 2020 was 30. I have sold just 1 copy so far, so I basically need this giveaway to carry my goal for the entire year 😀 No pressure.

Side note: today we hit 700 followers on this blog. Completely unrelated to my giveaway, but still awesome. Thanks guys.

Back to Basics: World-Building in an Established Universe

Creativity Sessions writing process. Evening Satellite Publishing.

I’m late! I intended to finish this post on Tuesday night, but that obviously didn’t work out. I’ve gotten away with writing entire posts the night before for a while, but it finally caught up to me. Anyway…

As you all may know, I’ve been working on two short stories this year together called “The Herb Witch Tales”. While these take place in the same fantasy universe as my first novel, I’m working with completely new characters, in a different time, and in a different region. I’m in new world-building territory for the first time in years.

This has raised some intriguing questions as I try to develop a story with the same richness of setting as the first. Continue reading “Back to Basics: World-Building in an Established Universe”

Writing a Novel vs. Writing a Short Story

For the first time in my authorly endeavors, I have two major works in progress… in progress.

I’m 60k words into The Warden of Everfeld: Legacy, a sequel-ish novel of 180-200k words that I know I’m not finishing this year.

Simultaneously, I’m 6k words into a duology/novella of about 60k words that I damn well better finish this year.

And after much deliberation and introspection, I can confirm: writing a short story is different from writing a novel. Continue reading “Writing a Novel vs. Writing a Short Story”

Saturday of Book Reviewing – Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go

This is the first review, in possibly ever, where I won’t be quoting directly from the source material to convey thoughts evoked by parts of a novel. Here, it seems more fitting to discuss the overarching themes themselves. Themes like ‘art as a revelation of soul’ or ‘when culture creates a complacency amongst the mistreated’ and even ‘the ethics of rising technologies’. Specifically in that last? Some Orphan Blackesque predicaments. Warning readers: massive spoilers ahoy. Continue reading “Saturday of Book Reviewing – Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go”
