Friday Write-Day: Emotional Movement in Revising

I promise I did not forget about my Friday post. I did forget the image, but whatevs. You know what this is by now, right?

A friend spontaneously invited me to see Aesop Rock last night in Baltimore, so obviously I had to go. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: Emotional Movement in Revising”

Marketing Your Novel: The Marketing Strategy!

marketing-your-novel

Disclosure: I work for a marketing firm. While I have no formal education in marketing or business and would never claim to be an “expert”, working in online marketing for two companies over the last  four years has taught me a lot. This series will explore the marketing strategies I will use to promote my upcoming novel.

As I mentioned in my Friday Write-Day post a few days ago, some business-like details have fallen into place regarding the publishing of my book this year. This has allowed me to lay out a basic timeline and strategy for promoting and publishing my upcoming fantasy novel, The Warden of Everfeld: Memento. Friday Write-Day: Busy with Business

I nearly forgot it was Friday. I suppose that’s what the holidays do to you.

Writing was slow once again, despite my time off from work earlier in the week — 3,600 for the week and 24,800 overall. But my weekly total is low mostly because I’ve been… distracted by other priorities the past two nights. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: Busy with Business”

Friday Write-Day: Goal – Time = Pressure!

fwd-goal-time-pressure

Time is unforgiving. We always like to say that we have time, but I don’t think that’s true. I think time lends itself to us, giving us the opportunity to use it to our benefit or squander it. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: Goal – Time = Pressure!”

Friday Write-Day: The Revision Plan

[Insert engaging, searchable image that I forgot to create here.]

Good news, everyone! All of my alpha readers are officially (finally) finished! I just met with a friend of mine last night to discuss the major themes and ideas that stuck out to him during his read of The Warden of Everfeld: Memento. It. Was. Fantastic.

It’s been entertaining, in a way, to hear these four friends/family members apologize profusely for how they’re about to eviscerate my novel before my eyes. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: The Revision Plan”

October Update: Beefing Up after a Much-Needed Hiatus

Well, a lot has happened in the last 10 days. First of all, Future Wife finally became Present Wife. The wedding was amazing and the honeymoon was awesome. That photo above is a taste of what we experienced (and tasted) in the Big Easy Continue reading “October Update: Beefing Up after a Much-Needed Hiatus”

Friday Write-Day: The Revision Plan

fwd-the-revision-plan

My short story has been submitted to Five on the Fifth’s contest! I read through Wolf’s Moon Night on Sunday night, making a few small changes, then again on Monday night. I finally worked up the courage to submit it on Tuesday, one day before the deadline. Submitting to a litmag — and particularly a contest — is daunting. Writing Lesson #37: Writing Consistently is about Balance

Lesson #37 from finishing my first manuscript: Try to find that balance.

Accomplishing anything effectively is about balance. Finishing the first draft of The Warden of Everfeld: Memento over the last few months was a bit tiresome. I had not met my monthly writing goals since the end of NaNoWriMo 2015, and I was constantly falling behind – according to my own exceedingly high standards. I just wanted it done, but I didn’t always have the motivation or the willpower to just sit down and write.

Finished*

173,920 words.

That is where my completed first draft sits in its current, non-revised form. I’m spending the entirety of my day off on Tuesday revising and finalizing the draft for Manuscript: Alpha, but damn it this feels good.

Much more work to come, but “Jaed and Aston” now has a beginning, middle, and end. I might be too excited to sleep tonight.
