Free Verse – Humility – Marcy Erb

Upon Glimpsing the Allegory of Humility in the Sculpture Gallery

From a distance I label her the personification of humility
Hands wrapped about herself, like the Virgin Mary,

Her bronze shawl draped about her head, neck, breasts
To shield her beauty and keep her modesty, even under glass.

Theme For August 5th! Humble Beginnings

‘…Steal my pride, Leave me blind, Steal my pride, And leave me blind, blind, blind now…” Boogie Woogie Woogie to sounds of the fall and please ignore the woeful screeching of my attempts at singing. Thank The Powers That Be that you can’t actually hear me, huh? This past week we stared into the abyss and saw what happened to a vivacious woman who lost herself in an ideal of ‘beauty’, how pride made us all liars, and how being a overconfident King lead to anguish and violence. Somehow I think as long as there’re people these things will continue to occur. In the immortal hamster wheel of Pinky and The Brain, “What do you want to do tonight?”

supply the puzzle. Continue reading “Free Verse – Pride – Marcy Erb” →

Free Verse – Wrath – JG

Tin Foil Man

Even from afar, across the bar,
I can see the condescension
In your first impression;
In your surface assessment
Of someone in my profession.
I wasn’t aware; Am I supposed to care
What you think?
What I think?
Is that you stink
Of imagined superiority,
Mr. Born of the Majority.
Does a suit make a man?
Can it stand,
Tall and alone,
If you did not call it home? Continue reading “Free Verse – Wrath – JG” →

Free Verse – Wrath – SD

Burning Soul VI

In a world full of hate, you only have what you can take.
Dancing with the pretenders, it leaves a sour taste.

They’re squelching my fire with the anger and the lies,
And I’m a smoldering ruin — a lone wolf howling at the moon. Continue reading “Free Verse – Wrath – SD” →
