“That Girl in Amsterdam”
Verse
I fell for a girl I met one evening in some dingy Amsterdam bar
Her eyes like ice, my heart was frozen, shining brighter than the stars
We talked for hours about God knows what, and I lost myself in her gaze
I’d paint her face from the depths of my mind, but I can’t recall her name
Refrain
My vision was locked, losing sight of time
If it went on any longer, I’d sure be blind
Verse
I fell for that girl I lost that evening, caught up in a haze
I’d write her letters upon the stars if I could just recall her name
She’s lost to time, mayhaps another, I’ll never see her again
For as long as I live I’ll always think of the nameless girl in Amsterdam
Refrain/Solo
My vision was locked, losing sight of time
If it went on any longer, I’d sure be blind
Verse
She’s lost to time, mayhaps another, I’ll never see her again
For as long as I live I’ll always think of the nameless girl in Amsterdam
(Extended Solo)
Final Refrain
My vision locked, I lost sight of time
If I’d stuck with her I’d like be blind
Editor’s Note: This was a lot harder than I anticipated, but I loved this exercise. As musically inclined as I like to think of myself, I am not a great songwriter. I need more practice writing lyrics to real songs (not the rhythms I make up in my head).
