Have you ever read a book with such a strange and convoluted theme, that you carried it around with you long after you physically set it down? A lot of Chuck Palahnuik’s books are like that but in this instance I’m specifically referencing Rant, also the name of the following poem:
If I could go back,
I’d change everything.
Steer foolish me
To a different destiny.
Accidentally, maliciously
Force myself out of what was.
Don’t want the future that will be,
To always be the future that is.
I’d do anything
To take myself out of it,
beyond.
Outside, inside, liminal time,
These road signs of age,
Final destination: Oblivion.
If I could go back,
I’d change everything.
Steer foolish me
To a different destiny.
There is no far enough,
From my shame.
Only the past
Is safe domain.
