When you can’t sleep
For fear of dreaming,
And can’t act
For fear and thinking.
Some days it’s too hard to get involved;
To be in the moment, instead of outside of it.
Perhaps your present may not be worth unwrapping;
But independent of your view, life keeps happening,
Especially when you’re trying to hide from it.
Nothing will ever be as everlasting as the past.
You’ll never hear that song for the 1st time again,
Never see your friends in the same light as when,
Everything was perfect. Everything was infinite.
When you can’t sleep
For fear of dreaming,
And can’t act
For fear and thinking,
And can’t feel
But fear and fearing.
Nostalgia can be an overwhelming burden.
One thing is certain:
If you can only look back,
You’ll always miss what’s in front of you.

A/N: Wrote this after reading The Perks Of Being A Wallflower. A pretty fantastic read if you haven’t heard of it before, though it is admittedly a little dark for some people’s tastes.
