Moonlit Musing – Semantics

Some Say Love

It began with a kiss.
The way many betrayals do.
A lapse in judgment
that swiftly led to two.

she forgot who
waited up for her.
The man to whom
she swore her heart.

Held in hindsight,
she’s one amongst few,
that cry for sympathy,
and support so soon.

she’s one of the ones,
one of the many,
one of the some,
Who say ‘love’.

It began with a kiss.
The way many betrayals have.
And when all was revealed,
she lied, and lost, and laughed.

A marriage split, a couple halved.
Many moments misused led to,
A past now ash from this chosen path.
she’ll never be able to go back.

An affair continued into the light,
No one expects to last.
Can calling adultery ‘love’
Change the disgraces amassed?

she’s one of the ones,
one of the many,
one of the some,
Who say ‘love’.

But I cry foul.
And reply with a scowl,
“Your lust does a disservice
To those of us who trust.
Love may end in pieces,
but it must never
begin in shards.”

PS: Soooo I’m not sure who amongst you lovely readers is keeping track, but this is the second time in sayyy a month that I’ve written about cheating. Yeah. In the first one, Infidelity, I thought the woman in question was making up stories to get out of a relationship and deeper into a bottle. Turns out I was only half right. As the chaos unfolds, I may write more poetry about it… this is happening to my friends right after I moved across the country away from them. And I can’t help but feel the guilt of not being around to support them.
