…A few days late, but not a song short…
By The Sword We Seek Peace, But Peace Only Under Liberty.
Highly Suspect
These Cape Cod natives are a relatively new addition to the music scene since their first studio album’s release in 2015. They’re practically newborns compared to some of the other Massachusettsites? …Massachusettians? Massachusettsers???… on this list.
PVRIS
St. Patrick: perfectly punctual in March! PVRIS is a RSPC favorite, see Stevie’s posts about them here and here.
Godsmack
Seven albums and counting…
Powerman 5000
So Spider One, leader singer of PM5K, is actually the little brother of fellow Boston badass Rob Zombie.
Unpopular Opinion: I am all for bands leaning into the cheese factor like in this video. Look at how much fun they’re having!
Rob Zombie
Dude’s a legend and a triple threat: singer, actor, director. There was a lot of material to choose from given the popularity of his band White Zombie and his solo stuff. In the end, I went selfish and chose my favorite of his singles, partially because it is featured in the Angel episode ‘FIve by Five’. Faith was always my favorite slayer.
The Cars
…they kick white shadows until they play dead…
I have little idea what this means, but I love it.
Letters To Cleo
Most people know this Boston band thanks to either Ben Wyatt or Kat Stratford. And if you don’t recognize those names, may I highly recommend to you both Parks and Recreation and 10 Things I Hate About You.
They Might Be Giants
The Johns, Fllansburgh and Linnell respectively, first met attending high school in Lincoln, Mass. The song above was recently featured on The Umbrella Academy and this music video was part of an episode of the great Tiny Toon Adventures.
American Hi-Fi
Lots of connectivity in the list. The lead singer of American Hi-Fi, Stacy Jones, was once the drummer of fellow lister Letters To Cleo.
EASTER EGG for all my DMV friends: Did you notice that the too stoned boyfriend in the video is wearing a DC101 shirt?
Bobby Brown
Robert Barisford Brown is primarily known for two things outside his solo career: New Edition and marrying Whitney Houston.
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
It may just be me, but I find the lyrics here super uplifting.
Dropkick Murphys
Again, it’s March. A month that should be devoted to Celtic Punk. Their music has been featured in several blockbuster movies including The Departed and The Fighter.
The Pixies
Before she became the lead singer of The Breeders, Kim Deal was backing vocals in The Pixies. And as anyone who has seen Fight Club knows, Where Is My Mind? is the perfect mix of loud quiet to reflect the chaos.
Dresden Dolls
Given the sheer number of instruments used in their songs, I sincerely had no idea this was actually a duo.
Bo Burnham
I love Bo Burnham. From his poetry to his stand up to his directing. More thoughts here!
