Writing when Life Gets in the Way

Real-life responsibilities hit me all at once in the last week and have really interfered with my writing. Now, I’m not going to lie, before the events of the past week, I was mostly getting in my own way of finishing the first draft of “Jaed and Aston”. But it feels different when external obligations are pulling you away from something you otherwise should be doing. Continue reading “Writing when Life Gets in the Way”

Don’t Call It a Recap: Writer’s Burnout

I am burned out on writing. There I said it. It would be one thing if I didn’t want to write, or if I simply had no solid ideas. But I have a slew of drafts in my WordPress Dashboard and a pretty good handle on where I want “Jaed and Aston” to go over the final few chapters. I just don’t have the motivation to do any of them. Continue reading “Don’t Call It a Recap: Writer’s Burnout”

The Mystical Land of a Completed First Draft

Wow, spring has been busy for me in all of the best ways. Future Wife and I took a road trip to Niagara Falls and Toronto a couple weeks ago (pictures incoming), and I have two more road trips planned in April, first to Denver and then to New England just a few days later. Maybe I’ll post some updates from the road on the old travel blog. Continue reading “The Mystical Land of a Completed First Draft”

Almost Near the Near End: March Goals

February was pretty good for me. I’m about 100 pages from finishing Lionheart and have the makings of a draft review sitting in my dashboard. I realize that I did not meet either of those goals, but that’s mostly because I was focused on writing… and occasionally watching Justice League on Netflix. Continue reading “Almost Near the Near End: March Goals”

Forming Habits and February Goals

Goals are hard, especially when you don’t meet them. Mainly, I fell short of my January writing goal of 20,000 words on “Jaed and Aston”. The bad news is that I only wrote 10,000 words. The good news is that I freaking wrote 10,000 words. Continue reading “Forming Habits and February Goals”

Creativity Sessions: Inner Monologues and Deductions

I love the concept of the inner monologue in writing, probably because I’m constantly up in my own head with thoughts and ideas that I might not express vocally. In writing, though, I think it has to be used delicately. Continue reading “Creativity Sessions: Inner Monologues and Deductions”

Monthly and Yearly Goals: January 2016

Happy New Year!

It’s 2016 now. I think the whole New Year’s Resolution thing is a tad overblown. That sentiment is obviously shared by my distant friend on the other side of this website. Still, I like setting goals for myself. It’s a challenge. And I’ve recently started publicizing my writing goals because I feel like I need to be held accountable to… whoever you are. So here are my goals for this month, as well as for 2016 in total. Continue reading “Monthly and Yearly Goals: January 2016”

“Jaed and Aston” Milestone: 100,000 Words

December has been a super slow writing month for me. The holidays always stress me out for no reason, and I had a bunch of other stuff going on this month. Thus, I fell far behind my month’s writing goal of ~35k for “Jaed and Aston”, and about a week before Christmas, I decided that I wouldn’t be able to catch up anyway. Continue reading ““Jaed and Aston” Milestone: 100,000 Words”

NaNo 2015 Recap + December Goals

National Novel Writing Month is finished for 2015, and I’ve taken a bit of a break from my novel. I wrote a few hundred words on Tuesday. Otherwise, I’ve been catching up on Netflix (I just started watching Sherlock with Cumberbatch and Martin. Quick rip: I like it). But I really only want this to be a temporary break from writing to reset my brain. Continue reading “NaNo 2015 Recap + December Goals”
