Saturday Of (Comic) Book Reviewing – Batman: Hush

Written by the legendary Jeph Loeb and illustrated by the wonderful duo of Jim Lee and Scott Williams, Hush is over 300 pages of visual stuns and twists and turns. Ever the typical avid reader, I enjoy attempting to predict the end of any story I read, and for the first time in a fair while, I was thrown by the ending here. Well. I thought I knew what was going to happen, and then I was convinced I had jumped to conclusions too swiftly, and then I was sure that I was confused about my initial correctness’s potential. Misplaced Missive #95 – Sorry Songs

I’m sorry:
Worthless words
That lost their power
Before they were ever said.
Wish I could pretend
To feel what you deserve.
It’s absurd.
You know all the lyrics
To a song I wish I had heard
From someone else. Continue reading “Misplaced Missive #95 – Sorry Songs”

Color Schemes – Blood Red Divisions

Red flags flown with pride,
A symbol once wished peaceful,
Used to tear us apart;
A past in pieces,
We cannot allow to restart.
How dare they preach while
Waving rags so soaked in blood. Continue reading “Color Schemes – Blood Red Divisions”

15 on the 15th: I thought I heard you, Pennsylvania, I thought I saw you

Not going to lie: I definitely decided on Pennsylvania purely for the chance to make a mix with Halestorm and Hop Along. Enjoy!

Halestorm – Familiar Taste Of Poison

This Grammy winning band hails from Red Lion, PA. They are spectacular live, I cannot express that enough. Continue reading “15 on the 15th: I thought I heard you, Pennsylvania, I thought I saw you”

Saturday of Book Reviewing – Campbell’s The Power of Myth

Disclaimer:This book is far closer to Stevie’s wheelhouse than mine!

Review: Seems a safe wager, that when people hear ‘The Power of Myth’, the PBS special between Bill Moyers and Joseph Campbell pops up before thoughts of the book that followed it does. Which is cool, only I never saw that special, soooo we’re exclusively discussing the written today. With the exception of right now, when I mention the serendipitous timing of my completion of this book falling mere days before I watched an episode of Gilmore Girls where Yale attendees Rory and Paris spend a night watching the special, instead of enjoying spring break in Florida. My, oh, my do I wish the book inspired that kind of avid attention. It did not. Continue reading “Saturday of Book Reviewing – Campbell’s The Power of Myth”

1 to 9: A Numeric Guide To The Directions of Censorship

In this the era of Trumpian fake news and flying accusations of -isms; racism, sexism, conservatism, liberalism, etc ; we have lost more than just respect for each other. We have sacrificed respect for virtue itself in our fight to be right. Right. Not accurate. Not kind. Not humane. Merely right. Galumphing – Fire Wood, Mascot, Stonehenge – Limericks (x5)

So go on shout, loud and proud,
Spreading our message toward the clouds.
Let them rise like smoke signals,
Strong and uplifting like hymnals,
Onward and upward – Don’t stay stuck on the ground. Continue reading “Galumphing – Fire Wood, Mascot, Stonehenge – Limericks (x5)”

Misplaced Missive #98 – Flip

He’ll only open his eyes to see the sun,
Visions of white and The Holy One.
His voice always commanding and sure,
Hides his weakness and won’t waver,
When he says nothing I want to hear,
When he reveals nothing, but his own fear. Continue reading “Misplaced Missive #98 – Flip”
