Dad Life: Finding You

As I’ve said a few times before here, being a stay-at-home dad, even for the short-term, has been an amazing experience. I’m spending three weeks at home with my son, just as he’s beginning to really experience the world around him.

But I think the most rewarding part has been getting to know who my son is, and who he might become. Continue reading “Dad Life: Finding You”

Friday Write-Day: Dad Life Returns

Well, week one of my three-week paternity leave is just about done. I’ve been enjoying my time with the little guy, as always. Except today, he spit up all of the formula he had eaten just minutes before, nailing my shirt, his shirt, my pants, and his pants. Then, when I went to change him, he peed all over himself.

Dad. Life. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: Dad Life Returns”

Haiku Tuesday – Sick

“Sick”

A bug in the throat,

a tickle, until it spreads

like a sickly web.

Hope you enjoyed the haiku. Apologies for the short post. I had wanted to write my end-of-year Numberbrag, but that will have to wait.

My laptop appears to be on its way out after 10 good years. The battery (with which I replaced the first battery) is not functioning well, and I’m still not able to turn the computer on at this point.

I’m shopping around for a new home desktop, but in the meantime, I’ll have to use my wife’s laptop.

I also came down with a cold last night, and I’m trying not to get my son sick. He’ll probably be fine, but only he’s four months old. So I will be washing my hands compulsively for the rest of the week.

Religion, Belief, and Parenting according to a Non-Practicing Parent

Today is my second consecutive day of stay-at-home parenting with Nugget. He’s been amazing. I have no idea what I’ve been doing for the last 36 hours. It feels like I’ve mostly been soothing him and then rushing to throw laundry in the dryer before he flips out.

Currently, we’re listening to the World of Warcraft soundtrack as he lays on his play mat and babbles at toys he clearly doesn’t quite know are there yet. He seems to like the music, though.

Friday Write-Day: Gearing Up to Slow Down

Man, my two-week stay-at-home-dad-cation cannot come fast enough.

Between work, the usual holiday stresses, and… mostly work, I’m really looking forward to just sitting at home with Nugget. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: Gearing Up to Slow Down”

Dipping My Toes into Stay-at-Home Parenthood

As I write this at midday on Monday, my son is asleep. I had just changed his diaper and his clothes–since he peed all over himself and them–and I set him down in his bassinet for minute so I could brush my teeth.

He had gotten quiet for more than a few moments, so I checked on him and found him asleep. I decided to use the opportunity to take a shower, and it felt like a victory.

Apparently, this is what being a stay-at-home parent feels like: small victories during the course of an otherwise unpredictable day. Continue reading “Dipping My Toes into Stay-at-Home Parenthood”

Friday Write-Day: NaNo Came and Went

Welp, November is over. National Novel Writing Month sped by me, but that’s been true of every month since my son was born.

I had a lofty goal of writing 20,000 words on Dad-Life Time, but NaNoWriMo goals are always lofty, right?

Anyway, it’s time I rethink how I approach my writing schedule and goals. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: NaNo Came and Went”
