“…Never had to knock on wood, but I know someone who has, which makes me wonder if I could…” Leave it to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones to create the song running through my head due to last week’s theme. It might be a bit premature to say this, but I think the soundtrack to the Seven Virtues is going to be a lot more lighthearted than that of its counterpart. Theme For August 5th! Humble Beginnings
‘…Steal my pride, Leave me blind, Steal my pride, And leave me blind, blind, blind now…” Boogie Woogie Woogie to sounds of the fall and please ignore the woeful screeching of my attempts at singing. Thank The Powers That Be that you can’t actually hear me, huh? This past week we stared into the abyss and saw what happened to a vivacious woman who lost herself in an ideal of ‘beauty’, how pride made us all liars, and how being a overconfident King lead to anguish and violence. Somehow I think as long as there’re people these things will continue to occur. In the immortal hamster wheel of Pinky and The Brain, “What do you want to do tonight?”

July 29 Theme: Before the Fall?
These weekly themes just keep getting better and better. Typically, our posts differ in their interpretations of the theme. This week however, each of our three authors focused on what made them angry, not why or how they were angry. Continue reading “July 29 Theme: Before the Fall?”
July 22 Theme: A Taste of Vengeance
I think this week’s submissions for the theme of Sloth may have been my collective favorite yet. Even for a sin as seemingly straightforward as laziness, we found three interpretations and uses. Continue reading “July 22 Theme: A Taste of Vengeance”
July 15 Theme: Apathetic Dejection
Welcome to week five of our Seven Deadly Sins series! Our foray into the theme of Envy produced what are probably three of the least similar interpretations yet. This week’s theme may inspire even more disparate submissions!
July 8 Theme: The Color of Jealousy?
We are now reaching sin number four in our seven-part, seven-week poetry series featuring the Seven Deadly Sins! We also had two guest submissions for the first time, which is always exciting. Three of the poems spoke directly about food, with one other focusing on the material side of gluttony. Continue reading “July 8 Theme: The Color of Jealousy?”

Free verse – Gluttony – Melaney Arruda
A guest submission for this week’s theme!
Thoughts on the Subject of Glunttony
In my culture,
How someone feeds you
Is in direct correlation to how they love you. Continue reading “Free verse – Gluttony – Melaney Arruda”
July 1 Theme: Gluttonous Appetites
Welcome to week 3 of the Seven Deadly Sins series! Last week’s contributions to the theme of Lust proved to come from completely different directions once again. Who knew that one theme could cover the birth of a child, a hunting predator, and the physical connection between people in one shot? Continue reading “July 1 Theme: Gluttonous Appetites”
June 24 Theme: The Second Sin
We are now entering the second week of our Seven Deadly Sins series. We began with Greed yesterday, because it is perhaps the most rampant and understood of the sins. Greed and selfishness are often the topic of conversation and debate regarding virtually every arena of media, from sports to economics. Continue reading “June 24 Theme: The Second Sin”
