Friday Write-Day: Vacation is almost Over!

Stay-at-home parenting is hard. Well, it’s not difficult, but it is time-consuming and frustrating.

It’s also fulfilling. These last two weeks have flown by. Things that happened a week ago already feel distant, because my days have been non-stop.

I’m also not sure I’m ready to go back to work on Monday, which is slightly concerning. The fact that I will only be at work for nine days (because I have New Year’s Day off) before another three-week dad-cation either helps or hurts this predicament.

Maybe it helps because I’ll be super-motivated to get as much done with my team in those nine days as possible. Or maybe it hurts because I’ll be thinking about spending another three weeks at home with my son before returning to work full-time and sending him off to daycare.

I suppose for now I’ll just be glad I have a chance to leave the house by myself and interact with adults. That should make Monday morning slightly easier.

On Actual Writing

I wrote about 1,300 words this week for The Warden of Everfeld: Legacy. Not bad, considering we traveled a couple of times for holiday events and watched a few Christmas movies in the run-up to celebrating our first real Christmas morning as a nuclear family.

That puts me at 7,200 words for the month of December. Again, not bad, and way better than any of the previous five months. My goal is for 10,000 words total, but we only have four days left.

I’m not saying I can’t write 2,800 words over essentially a long weekend, but I already know we have some other things going on, and then I have to work on Monday, followed by some festivities of some kind…

I forget what they are (sarcasm). The point is, I’m glad I climbed the 7,000-word hill, but I’d like to reach juuuust a bit higher.

I haven’t done any further revisions on The Grand Mythos of Úr’Dan, because I was waiting for my editor’s final comments. They came last night, so now I have some questions to ponder as I work through her revisions.

The cover art is just about done, and I’ve selected the font, so that’s cool. I promise I’ll talk more about this before I publish. I’m thinking I’ll be ready to post the first story on Wattpad in the middle of January, but I will definitely announce it and reveal the cover.

Goals for 1/4

  1. Holy crap it will be 2019
  2. Write 3,000 words for WoEL
  3. Start actually working through revisions for Grand Mythos
  4. Remember how to work at a job
