I was fortuitously introduced to PVRIS when Jessie sent me a two-volume mixed CD, all the way from Denver. I had been desperate to hear some new music for a few weeks, and of the myriad of bands I found on those CDs, PVRIS (pronounced ‘Paris’) stuck out. Did I say these were songs to keep you going? Because I meant me. Here’s a rundown of what I’ve been writing/vibing to recently. Continue reading “Songs to Keep You Going During Writing Crunch Month”
I miss music. I do. It’s so strange, music hasn’t gone anywhere, but I just haven’t been looking for it the way I used to. RedString started because of poetry, yes, but also because of music. February was pretty good for me. I’m about 100 pages from finishing Lionheart and have the makings of a draft review sitting in my dashboard. I realize that I did not meet either of those goals, but that’s mostly because I was focused on writing… and occasionally watching Justice League on Netflix. I had never really sat down and listened to bluegrass before I was in grad school. I had heard it, of course, but I did not appreciate it until I saw it performed live, by a band from England no less: Kidnap Alice. Continue reading “A Deep Bluegrass Dive with Kidnap Alice”
Many moons ago, this site was born of a continuous exchange of poetry and mix CDs. Last night in the wee hours of the morning, I realized that I missed one fundamental aspect of that beginning – the music. And thus I have decided to do a mix list for you folks in line with December’s Theme. Continue reading “Literary Inspiration Mixtape: My Top Ten”
