Anyone Need a Freelance Writer / Editor / Content Marketer?

Well, I wasn’t planning on talking about this until after the dust settled, but I’ve had a change of heart.

I was laid off from my job last week. I am actively looking for a new position, but in the meantime, I need to keep my options open.

That’s why I’m officially offering freelance services in writing, editing, or online marketing. Here’s a little bit about my background:

  • I reviewed news releases for publication on PRWeb.com, PRNewswire.com, and MarketWired.com for three years. I reviewed approximately 10,000 press releases in that time, and I know what a good press release looks like.
  • I have also written two dozen press releases for various organizations across industries such as tech, fashion, and publishing. And yes, I even wrote my own press releases for my book.
  • I strategized and managed pay-per-click marketing campaigns and provided regular analytics reports for clients, curating nearly 1 million clicks across dozens of campaigns.
  • I’m also open to other work in the realms of writing, editing, and online marketing.
  • Please email info (at) eveningsatellite (dot) com to discuss pricing and project requirements.

Now that I’ve pimped myself out, I’ll get into my sudden unemployment a bit. Continue reading “Anyone Need a Freelance Writer / Editor / Content Marketer?”

Reblog: The Basics of PPC Marketing with Taboola

MLS Weech was kind enough to host one of my marketing pieces on his site last week — thanks man! Definitely check out his blog, and his books Caught and The Journals of Bob Drifter!

I wanted to include this piece, “The Basics of PPC Marketing with Taboola” with my ongoing Marketing Your Novel series. I’ll write a follow-up in the near future about how my campaigns performed overall.

M.L.S. Weech

Greetings All,

I’m super stoked about this post.  I’ve known Steven since I’ve started blogging, and I consider him a friend above all. I also consider him one of my top marketing mentors, so when he offered to create a post, I jumped at  the chance.  His book, The Warden of Everfeld: Memento, is out now, and I’ve already ordered my paperback version and added it to my impossible to whittle down TBR list on Goodreads.   So, if you’re like me, and you feel like marketing is a tough nut to crack, please see below.

When I tell people I used to use PPC marketing as part of my job, they give me funny looks. When I tell them that I am now using PPC marketing to promote my first novel, they’re downright flummoxed.

But Pay-Per-Click Marketing is really quite simple: you pay a particular service to feed…

Numberbrag: 20,000 Views Under the Web

Milestones are sort of weird. They can be easy to lose track of until you’re sitting right on top of them. I stopped myself from doing one of these stats update posts until we had hit a real milestone.

Well, I stopped paying attention, and here we are well over 20,000 Views and 13,000 visitors all-time. Sweet!

Since we’re through the first quarter of 2018, I wanted to have a look at some other recent numbers. Continue reading “Numberbrag: 20,000 Views Under the Web”

How to Promote A New Book Release

Well, I’ve had about a week to collect myself and focus on the business side of publishing a novel. Now, I’d like to discuss how I am planning the pre-release and release phases of my novel from a marketing perspective.

Whether or not this turns out to be the right way to market a soon-to-be and newly published novel remains to be seen, but I like my plan and I’m sticking to it. Continue reading “How to Promote A New Book Release”

Slightly Revised Marketing Plan… 2018!

Apologies for the late post today. A certain Jessie kept me on a video call for four hours last night.

With the revisions of The Warden of Everfeld: Memento coming along nicely, it’s time to talk about how I’ll be promoting this book.

My marketing efforts last year were focused on audience-building, and that’s largely still the goal. But now, with a tentative release date of early 2018, I need to be sure that the audience I build is actually interested in buying my book.

Marketing Your Novel: The Marketing Strategy!

marketing-your-novel

Disclosure: I work for a marketing firm. While I have no formal education in marketing or business and would never claim to be an “expert”, working in online marketing for two companies over the last  four years has taught me a lot. This series will explore the marketing strategies I will use to promote my upcoming novel.

As I mentioned in my Friday Write-Day post a few days ago, some business-like details have fallen into place regarding the publishing of my book this year. This has allowed me to lay out a basic timeline and strategy for promoting and publishing my upcoming fantasy novel, The Warden of Everfeld: Memento. Marketing Your Novel: Pay-Per-Click Advertising

Disclosure: I work for a marketing firm. While I have no formal education in marketing or business and would never claim to be an “expert”, working in online marketing for two companies over the last  four years has taught me a lot. This series will explore the marketing strategies I will use to promote my upcoming novel.

Today I’d like to discuss pay-per-click (PPC) advertising as a marketing strategy. PPC advertising is essentially paying another website or platform to host your advertisement for their audience to see. This type of marketing serves your content to a much larger audience than may otherwise be accessible through your blog, website, or even social media. When running a PPC campaign, you will “bid” for that ad space based on how much you want to pay for each time a random user clicks on your ad, hence pay-per-click.
