Steady Hands and Unsteady Minds

I’ve been missing.

For quite a bit longer than usual, really. Before the series of family emergencies and life obstacles, I simply have not been present. Moving back to my home state has been, for lack of a better word, disruptive. To my routine, my writing, my health. Mostly that last one: Health, the kind with no outward sign that sits in your noggin. Continue reading “Steady Hands and Unsteady Minds”

Officially an Officiant: Thoughts Post Performing a Wedding

I’ve been pretty MIA for awhile now. Overburdened with promises I made without really considering how much they would personally tax me. One of those, really the one with the most to gain/lose, was my agreement to officiate a good friend’s wedding ceremony.

It transpired this past weekend. It went…. far better than I could have hoped, to be honest. My heavy reliance on my ‘inner wolf’, as I jokingly call my tenuous confidence, pulled me through a situation that terrified me.  Continue reading “Officially an Officiant: Thoughts Post Performing a Wedding”

Song Share And Action Update!

Why hello there, reader! It’s been a bit since I held myself accountable and told you what I’m up to, thus: this.

To start, a bit of background music to enjoy whilst you read:

That’s better, now isn’t it? I think so too. And hey, if you stumble upon some extra time later and are Johnny Cash fans, check out Forever Words, both an album and a book devoted to the legend’s unpublished writing.  Continue reading “Song Share And Action Update!”

Song Share and Intention Update!

I click on pretty much any content that has ‘wolf’ in the title. This time it worked well in my favor.

Right. Soo this is my attempt at a Stevie-like update. Please don’t expect this to become a regular occurrence as it feels awkward as all hell to be jotting life down this way, but here goes:  Continue reading “Song Share and Intention Update!”

Chester Bennington and a Cheap-Feeling Writing Update

I was 12 when Hybrid Theory came out, and I remember listening to it on my walkman in my room until I knew all of the words to every song. I fondly remember it as the soundtrack to my life ages 12-13.

I’m not going to write a post about Chester Bennington. Jessie pretty well covered my own feelings on this news yesterday.

RIP Chester Bennington Continue reading “Chester Bennington and a Cheap-Feeling Writing Update”

Friday Write-Day: The Revision Plan

fwd-the-revision-plan

My short story has been submitted to Five on the Fifth’s contest! I read through Wolf’s Moon Night on Sunday night, making a few small changes, then again on Monday night. I finally worked up the courage to submit it on Tuesday, one day before the deadline. Submitting to a litmag — and particularly a contest — is daunting. Not a Real Post or Update, but Close Enough

Sorry for the radio silence this week. I’ve been stressed, and Jessie is apparently working triple-shifts, which I did not know were a thing in the 21st century. Tomorrow is also not the start of my weekend, as I am covering for someone on Saturday. At least the office will be devoid of people I’m supposed to interact with.

It’s all good though, because next week, we’ll be on yet another road trip adventure to a cottage on a river! Romantic getaway, you say??? Continue reading “Not a Real Post or Update, but Close Enough”

Creativity Sessions: Cliffhangers as a Narrative Device

I enjoy cliffhangers in novels. As someone in the marketing profession, I also understand why they are often used at the ends of novels. I’ll be just finishing up the story when the author throws a curveball, making me go Oh shit, how can you leave me hanging like that?! And then Book 2 comes out and I buy it immediately, because obviously I have to see what happens. It’s good business.

But as a narrative device? I’m becoming more and more skeptical of the end-of-book cliffhanger. Continue reading “Creativity Sessions: Cliffhangers as a Narrative Device”

I’m Leaving On A Jet Plane, Don’t Know When I’ll Be Back Again

This has been a strange month. I went on a five day vacation only to decide to move to Colorado for the foreseeable future, and because I can do nothing by halves, this of course meant I began planning to move immediately. To the apparent dismay of family, friends, coworkers, acquaintances, and people I sort of recognize by drink order only, the whole transition has taken less than a single strange month.
