GUEST POST: Writing for Yourself vs Writing for an Editor, by Steven D’Adamo

Sci-fi author Luther M Siler let me write a guest post for his website, which is pretty awesome. Have a look-see and check out his books. I’d be happy to have a fraction of the following he does. (Maybe just a slightly bigger fraction than currently. )

Thank you Luther!

At least one guest post today and tomorrow, as brain melt starts to set in.  Steve’s good people.  Be nice.

For Whom Do You Write? (Hint: it always changes!)

Most of us say that we only write for ourselves, that it doesn’t matter how the outside world perceives our stories because we poured our hearts…

Chester Bennington and a Cheap-Feeling Writing Update

I was 12 when Hybrid Theory came out, and I remember listening to it on my walkman in my room until I knew all of the words to every song. I fondly remember it as the soundtrack to my life ages 12-13.

I’m not going to write a post about Chester Bennington. Jessie pretty well covered my own feelings on this news yesterday.

RIP Chester Bennington Continue reading “Chester Bennington and a Cheap-Feeling Writing Update”

And My New Favorite German Word is… Fledermaus!

I miss studying language. I took French in middle/high school, German in college, and Arabic in college/grad school. The roots and origins of words has always fascinated me, and I will still look up words that catch my fancy. Continue reading “And My New Favorite German Word is… Fledermaus!”

Remember to Write What You Love and Love What You Write

I’ve been a little too focused on just writing the last few weeks. I forgot for a moment that I was supposed to enjoy the process. The strict deadlines I had imposed on my word counts and finish dates were weighing down the writing itself.

It took an off-hand reminder from the lovely Jessie to remember: love what you write, and write what you love. Continue reading “Remember to Write What You Love and Love What You Write”

Friday Write-Day: The End is… Outlined

Welp, I’m dumb. I spent the time creating a photo for this post and didn’t bother to upload before publication time yyyeeeeeeeeaaaaah!

Anyway. I like my new update-every-two-weeks so far. It feels fresh now. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: The End is… Outlined”

Exploring Úr’Dan: Feldings and Uplanders

In honor of the premier of Planet Earth II back in March, I wrote a post about the northern region of my fantasy world, Úr’Dan. In that post, I wrote about the Hundred Teeth mountain range and the Uplands that make up the northern portion of this subcontinent.

Planet Earth II was fantastic, by the way. If you have not watched it, you’re missing out on some beautiful cinematography and amazing animals.

Anyway, I thought I would continue my “Exploring Úr’Dan” series by discussing the people who actually live in the Uplands, collectively known as Uplanders. Continue reading “Exploring Úr’Dan: Feldings and Uplanders”

Friday Write-Day: Impatience begets Churning Out Words

4,000 words written Thursday night. That’s about my only accomplishment this week, but I’ll take it. To put that in perspective, I wrote 6,800 words (exactly, strangely enough) for the entire week. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: Impatience begets Churning Out Words”

Friday Write-Day: A Very Strange Week

I’ve had a severe lack of motivation all week, hence the non-title card for this post.

I was going to write a piece about how the sense of failure in one aspect of life can trickle down and impact other parts of your life. But that seems crass in the wake of Chris Cornell’s death. Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: A Very Strange Week”

Friday Write-Day: A NaNo-Style Month… to Finish My Beta!

NaNo-Style Month

I have crossed the 130,000-word threshold for Manuscript Beta: of The Warden of Everfeld: Memento. Now I just need a NaNo-style month of writing to finish! Continue reading “Friday Write-Day: A NaNo-Style Month… to Finish My Beta!”
