I left work at 4:30 yesterday because I was just too tired to deal with anything. I almost couldn’t deal with the awful commute home, but I made it.

And I promptly took a two-hour nap. Dad Life is tiring.

Maybe that early evening siesta will just have to be part of my routine until Nugget learns how to sleep for more than a couple hours at a time.

The first half of this week was a complete blur, both at work and at home. I really don’t remember what I did Monday and Tuesday nights. That translated to me not getting a whole lot of writing done this week.

Early Manuscript Decisions

I wrote about 1,000 words total for The Warden of Everfeld: Legacy, which isn’t terrible, but it’s not good, either. I’m also still working out how to tackle a few things early in the novel.

Two scenes within my first three chapters have multiple characters discussing various subjects — councils of sorts. Now, I could go through and name all 10-30 characters present in the scene, give them each physical attributes, and perhaps even a line or two.

But that would be overwhelming to the reader, so I’ve tried to limit the number of speaking parts to a few crucial characters — preferably focusing on those who have already been introduced.

I’ve also noticed that I am taking far less time to describe characters physically in this draft than in WoEM. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but it’s just how I’m writing currently.

Maybe my style has changed a bit.

I’m looking forward to getting some solid writing time in this weekend. Nugget is going to have his first bath at some point, so that should be interesting. Teddy, our dog, is also due for a good washing and brushing. Maybe even a brush-wash-brush to ensure he’s not shedding damp fur all over the place for the next five days.

Goals for 9/28

1. Write 5,000 words for WoEL
2. Sleep at some point each day — possibly multiple points
3. Bathe Nugget and Teddy — preferably not simultanouesly
